AMSYAR, AMY NAMED UM SPORTSMAN AND SPORTSWOMAN OF 2018
Diver Ahmad Amsyar Azman and rhythmic gymnast Amy Kwan Dict Weng were crowned the 2018 University of Malaya (UM) Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year at the UM Sports Awards Night. The annual award ceremony was held at the Sime Darby Convention Centre on 28 March 2018 to celebrate and honour the achievements of UM athletes in the sporting arena.
Amsyar, the 25-year-old Perlis-born diver, made the country proud by winning two gold medals in 1m springboard individual event and 3m men's synchronised springboard as well as a silver medal in 3m springboard individual at the Kuala Lumpur 29th SEA Games last year.
While Amy, the 23-year-old Selangor-born rhythmic gymnast was recognised for her achievement in winning two gold medals in team event and ribbon apparatus as well as two silver in the individual all-around and the hoop apparatus at the SEA Games.
Amsyar and Amy each took home a trophy and a cash prize of RM1,500. Both of them will be representing Malaysia in the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
